Non-Distress
Alert information:
Located: Early this morning some of us chased down an ELT to a strange place. It was the simulated World Airport of Metropolitan State College on the Auraria campus in downtown Denver. The Department of Aviation is housed in the Seventh St.Classrooms (7th and Lawrence). We got the campus police to open the building for us and outside the Avionics lab there are 3 or 4 ELT's in a display case, but they were not active. When we went into the lab we found a least 3 old simulators all with real ELTs and one was on. It was a simple matter of flipping a switch on the panel to turn it off, and we suspect the cleaning crew accidently turned it on. It was a fun search since the signal was well shielded to the Southeast, bounced off the canyon walls of downtown Denver, and follow the Platte River Northward. And...yes let's not forget that most of the streets are one way with a street light at every intersection that was usually red. At least traffic was light
